Ray of Light
Mariah began Ray of Light in 2005, after she finished her Education Specialist in Literacy degree. As a teacher of Indigenous children in rural Alaska, she is strong connected with Indigenous children throughout the world. As a bilingual educator, she is uniquely poised to design programs to support these children and their families.
Twice a year, donations of children’s literature are made to Indigenous children. Centers are being set up now in Guna Yala, an autonomous Indigenous region of Panama, so young children can receive nutritious meals and early language and literacy activities. We also hold painting and art workshops, as well as yoga classes for the children.
